Jenny Ondioline & Crumb Duck review NME Sep 4 1993

‘Jenny Ondioline’ and ‘Crumb Duck’ were reviewed by Edwin Pouncey in the Singles section of the NME September 4 1993 issue.

I’ve transcribed the review –

STEREOLAB: Jenny Ondioline (Duophonic)
STEREOLAB/NURSE WITH WOUND: Crumb Duck (Clawfist)

The jingle of pop chemistry on the boil is the formula at work on these two ten-inch slabs. ‘Jenny Ondionline’ is a soft spacey set of mind rockers with a political message which soothes and caresses the furrowed brow.

‘Crumb Duck’ is a bird of another plumage althogether. For this the band handed the mastertape of a recent session over to mad sound scientist Steven Stapleton, the bad brain behind Nurse With Wound, and told him to do whatever he wished with it. ‘Crumb Duck’ was returned after a severe pop plucking sounding like the next Faust album, a seething and prickly session compared to their usual beat.
